(Rabbi Meir said: Consider that in the days of Moses there was a creature in itself, and the sages did not decide whether it was a kind of beast or a kind of animal, and it had one horn on its forehead, and from time to time it appeared to Moses, and he made from it the Tabernacle and it was hidden. - Shabbat 28b.
