הגדרה (אנגלית)

Words of blessing said to guests upon their arrival. It is customary that the guests respond to this blessing with the blessing 'Blessed are those who are present.'

("Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord; we bless you from the house of the Lord" - Psalms 118:26, and also: "Therefore one says 'Blessed is the one who comes' corresponding to the infant 'Blessed is the circumcised' at eight days. And recently it became customary to say 'Blessed are those who come' corresponding to the father of the infant" - Sefer Shibolei HaLeket, Laws of Circumcision, Section 8, and also: "Likewise, I accept with the blessing 'Blessed are those who come' all those who recently came to the land, who are called by the name 'Maapilim' (illegal immigrants). They passed through all the seven fiery and hellish stages and wandered for seven days until finally, after all the wanderings and terrors, they merited to arrive and set foot upon the shores of our holy land" - Responsa Tzitz Eliezer Part 22, Siman 35)
